June 5th of this year marks the 53rd World Environment Day. The China Association for Science and Technology's Ecological Environment Industry Education Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the "Alliance") released the top ten scientific and technological advances in China's ecological environment for 2023, including water quality standards, climate effects, Yangtze River simulator, low-carbon technology for ships, agricultural and forestry waste, green new technologies and equipment for land and sea integrated management.

Wang Jinnan, an academician of the CAE Member and chairman of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, said that the selection of the top ten scientific and technological progress in China's ecological environment since its launch in 2019 reflects the latest cutting-edge developments in the field of ecological environment in China, and will play a positive role in leading scientific and technological innovation in the field of ecological environment, creating an innovative atmosphere for the whole society, and improving public environmental awareness.

Zhang Yuanhang, an academician of the CAE Member and director of the consortium's academic exchange work committee, said that the selection of China's ten major ecological environmental progress efforts to reflect the requirements of accelerating the development of new quality productivity, and constantly improve the integration of "knowledge innovation" and "technological innovation". This year's ten major developments have broad representativeness, including water, gas, soil, solid waste, ocean, as well as basic research, technological research and development, industrialization, and decision-making research.

For example, the "Construction of China's Water Quality Benchmark Theory and Technology System" completed by the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences focuses on "theoretical and methodological innovation - key technological breakthroughs - management and application practices", establishing a water quality benchmark theory methodology suitable for China's national conditions. It breaks through a series of key technologies for water quality benchmark formulation and basic data acquisition, and its achievements have been upgraded to a series of national standards, forming a basic system for environmental benchmark management and promoting its application, enhancing the effectiveness, scientificity, and standardization of China's environmental management and policy standards.

It is reported that the consortium is a collaborative innovation platform organization established under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology, initiated by national associations, industry leading enterprises, representative scientific research institutions, and public welfare organizations across fields such as ecology, environment, meteorology, ocean, water conservancy, and agriculture and forestry. Its aim is to promote high-level ecological and environmental technological innovation, support high-level ecological and environmental protection, and promote green, low-carbon, and high-quality development.
